Book Review
This beautifully illustrated tale of a penguin family residing in New York City's Central Park Zoo will leave readers of all ages asking themselves this very important question: What does it mean to be a family? As told by Richardson and Parnell, this true story will capture the hearts of all readers. Set in the penguin house, Roy and Silo, two male penguins, are "a little bit different." They do everything together, and wherever one goes, the other follows. Just like the other penguins, Roy and Silo build a nest together, and when they notice that other penguins could lay eggs and raise baby penguins, they want to do the same. Determined to raise a baby, the couple sits on an egg-shaped rock and attempt to hatch it. When the keeper notices how nurturing Roy and Silo are, he brings them an egg that needs to be cared for. The couple knows "exactly what to do," taking turns nurturing and protecting the egg. This uplifting story will certainly put a smile on your face when Tango, "the very first penguin to have two daddies," hatches from her shell. This joyful celebration about two loving fathers - and what it means to be a family - is a must for any library and frequent zoogoer.
